Our story

Window installers who measure their own jobs

Red Deer Custom Windows is a husband-and-wife business with two install crews of two. The owner does the quotes. All of them. That means the person who measured your house is the person who answers when you call, and if a window we measured comes in wrong, that's our problem to fix, not yours. We've worked this way since 2001, and well over 3,000 Central Alberta houses later we haven't found a better one.

Our lead installer spent seven winters on service rigs between Sylvan Lake and Rocky before switching to windows about twenty years ago. Rig work teaches you what minus 35 with a wind does to steel, rubber and people. It also teaches you that the job done in a hurry is the job you do twice. Nobody rushes. So we install one opening at a time, tarp and heat the room in deep cold, and wait for the chinook if the forecast says we should.

The work itself is mostly houses: bungalows near downtown with their original wood windows, 1990s two-storeys with fogged sealed units, basement suites that need a legal egress window. We also look after apartment buildings for property managers, and fire, hail and break-in jobs for insurance and restoration companies. Customers tell us we were the only ones who'd do an egress job from digging to clean-up. We'd rather do the whole thing than half of it.

"I've stood on a rig floor at minus 38. Your living room shouldn't feel anything like it. That's the whole reason we fuss over foam and tape," says our lead installer. Every install is covered for five years, the windows for life, and we haul the old ones away when we go.

How we work

What you can expect from our crew

  • A written quote, not a guess

Nothing gets priced until we've measured it ourselves, and the quote spells out glass, frame, trim, foam and clean-up. We hold it for 60 days. We once honoured one a full year later, because life happened to that customer and the price was the price.

  • Triple pane, honestly recommended

We think triple pane belongs on every wall in this climate, and we'll tell you why with numbers: roughly 10-15% more up front, a warmer inside pane, less frost. About 7 in 10 of our customers agree. The other 3 still get a good install.

  • Covered and accountable

WCB and liability coverage, business licences for most Central Alberta towns, a 5-year all-inclusive installation warranty and a lifetime warranty on the windows. We'll even talk you through a window part over the phone with no sale in it.
